Bref aperçu
Le 2-éthylhexanol possède un groupe hydroxyle primaire. C'est un liquide incolore. Le 2- L'éthylhexanol est largement utilisé dans la production de phtalate de dioctyle (applications vinyliques), d'acrylates, de nitrate de 2-éthylhexyle, d'additifs pour huiles lubrifiantes, de produits chimiques miniers, de plastifiants spéciaux, d'herbicides et d'huiles esters (domaines d'application non vinyliques).
Procédé de fabrication
La production industrielle de 2-éthylhexanol se fait par un procédé en trois étapes impliquant l'autocondensation aldolique du n-butyraldéhyde suivie d'une déshydratation et d'une hydrogénation. Le n-butyraldéhyde a été initialement obtenu
de l'acétaldéhyde via l'éthylène, mais celui-ci a été remplacé par le procédé oxo à partir du propylène.
